The seas of commissioning

I met with our GPCC/CCG/CCC chairs this week. They are both very smart, experienced GPs who have steered their crafts through uncharted waters. Apparently the map they should be using is due out ‘at the end of the month’. The authorisation process will explain to our intrepid explorers whether the vessel in which they have commenced the journey is to be allowed to progress further.

Wait and GMC

I’ve been reading this week. It’s a bit of a surprise given
how much else there is to do in the rapidly shrinking Black Tower
- but those nice people at GMC are looking for comments. They’ve released a
consultation draft document entitled Good Management Practice: Guidance
for all doctors.
I’m afraid this is a must-read. It’s not long but each page is weighted down by

The schutzstaffel of the GP commissioning consortia

‘It’s all about perspective innit?’ The youthful PCT manager
was delighted. He has just been selected by one of our newly hatched

No prizes for GP consortia in this strange new game

It
has been a quiet week at the Black
Tower, we’ve been tasked
with filling in lottery cards. The DoH wants a return which outlines the future

local/cluster/regional office*? (*delete as politically acceptable). Once your
bet is placed, the next set of questions need to be completed. Are those
individuals serving statutory functions, pseudo-statutory functions or are they
simply a luxury?

PCTs reorganise for Cluster’s Last Stand

‘Que sera sera, whatever will be, will be’, is our new theme
tune at the Black
Tower. We’ve now received
guidance from the SHA on how we will enter the brave new world of clustering.
Before laying out the details, can I ask is it just me who associates the word
cluster with a nasty American invention? I’m talking about cluster bombs…

The reading of the Health Bill

Okay – hands up if you’ve read it? Really? Are you sure?
Given the luxury of time up at the Black
Tower I’ve had chance to
get to grips with the Bill, not the defunct cop show, but the meat and two veg
of the Silver Fox’s cunning plan.

Can I say I’ve changed my mind about him, I thought he was ‘off on one’,
barking, one vote short of a majority, but having seen the details, he’s
probably the sanest man in British politics.
